Your eyes are one of the most important parts of your entire body. You can live without them, but you'd miss out on seeing a lot of wonderful things. This is why taking good care of your eyes is so important. To keep your eyes healthy and to help improve your overall eye health, there are a few things you should be doing. 1. Eat Healthier

Eating a healthier diet can improve your vision and improve your health overall as well. You should eat a diet that is plentiful in fresh fruits and vegetables, especially orange vegetables, which contain carotene and can improve your eye health. Eat foods such as carrots, squash, spinach, kale, and romaine lettuce. If you aren't able to find fresh vegetables, frozen is the next best thing. 

2. Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated will help prevent your eyes from getting dried out. If your eyes dry out, it can lead to eye strain, which can damage your vision. Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water each day to keep your body hydrated. Stay away from caffeinated beverages that can dehydrate you. If you do have dry eyes, you can use artificial tears, but consult your eye doctor before you do this.

3. Get Enough Rest

You give your body rest to help your body heal and stay in good shape, and your eyes are no different. They also need a good rest, especially if you are straining them by looking at computer screens, smartphones or tablets often. Give your eyes a rest by taking breaks from time to time. Look away from the screens to re-wet your eyes and to alleviate them. You may have a hard time focusing on other objects around you after you stare at a screen all day long, which is why breaks are so important.

4. Prevent Infections

Prevent eye infections by keeping your hands and fingers out of your eyes. Only touch your eyes with freshly washed hands to prevent the spread of germs to your eyes. If you have smaller children, they can bring germs home to your house from other children. Be sure you and your children keep your hands and fingers away from the eyes and face, and be sure you and your children wash your hands often. If you suspect an eye infection, have it treated to avoid harming your vision.
